“The
society of the decorative artists” was formed after the
Universal exposition of 1900. The society was formed by a number of
French artists among whom Hector Guimard, Raoul Lachenal, Eugene
Grasset, Emile Decoeur and Paul Bellot were very famous. In fact, they
established the rules and principles of the Art Deco designs and
architecture. The core purpose of the society was to introduce the new
French decorative arts to whole of the world. And, the society was
accomplished to a greater extent. These artists also formed the IEMIDA
– International Exposition of Modern Industrial and Decorate
Arts. This exposition played a very vital role in the art deco history.
Hector Guimard, who is considered as the pioneer of Art Deco concept, was a French architect. Furthermore, he was the most active representative of the French Art Nouveau. Until recent times, the personality of Hector Guimard was not that much reputed as he did not have many followers. But with the passage of time, people learned his decorative and architectural work and hence praised him. Hector Guimard started learning arts with the typical old structural concepts of Art Nouveau. Due to extreme interest in the field, Guimard, along with his friends and co-workers started “The society of decorative artists”.
In 1969, a major exhibition was held at Minneapolis Institute of Arts. This exhibition was conducted in order to popularize the concept of French art and decoration throughout the world. The book “The World of Art Deco” peaked the interest of Art deco, hence creating millions of fans from every corner of the globe. The book was published in 1971 and it was a complete and thorough record of the exhibition.
Art Deco artists used to implement art deco fashion with particular mathematical and geometrical shapes. There are a number of countries and cities where you can still see the pioneer architectures of art deco artists. Art deco principles and architecture was also greatly influenced by Streamline Moderne or simply streamline. The streamline was a similar movement like Art Deco and hence it has a greater contribution in the overall structure of art deco concepts and designs. Streamline mostly focused on the velocity of physical objects like ballistics and automobiles. The aerodynamics hence devised were very liked by the Art deco artists and hence they became the part of Art Deco fashion.
Though the most popular and pioneer art deco artists are not among us today, but their teachings, designs, concepts, and architecture is still taught in Bauhaus and a number of other institutions in every corner of the world. This enriches and keep the art deco artists alive.
